Sar-i Silahdar

Sar-i Silahdar
   The chief of the armor-bearers (silahdars) of the sultan. The silahdars were armed men who waited on the sultan when he gave public audience or rode through the streets. There were generally two sar-i silahdars, each guarding one of the flanks.
